Board of Directors

The Sunshine 811 Board of Directors approves the annual operating and capital budgets, the annual member assessments, and the operating policies of the corporation to administer the provisions of the Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act, Chapter 556, Florida Statutes. The Board of Directors is comprised of the following entities interested in safety and prevention of service interruptions and have joined Sunshine 811 as associate members.

  • Primary members of the corporation — entities that own and operate underground facilities in Florida

  • Associate members — entities interested in safety and prevention of service interruptions, who are qualified to do business in Florida (design, engineering, excavating, locating, surveying, etc.), and who have joined Sunshine 811 as associate members.

The Board of Directors may include up to 21 members in total, four of which may be associate members in good standing.

The Board of Directors meet quarterly, and the Director elections are held during the Annual Meeting of Members in May.

Become a Director

Any person who intends to become a candidate for election as a Director must inform the Executive Director of his or her intention at least ten (10) days before the election. To do so, please follow the steps below:

  1. Provide a letter of nomination on company or agency letterhead dated and signed by the nominee’s immediate supervisor or the company or agency chief executive officer, president or owner. The letter must provide all the information requested on the sample nomination letter (attached). The nomination letter must also indicate that the nominee is employed by a Sunshine 811 primary or associate member in good standing.

Officers

Officers are elected annually at the annual meeting in May and serve one-year terms.

 
 
 

Committee Chairs

Committees are dissolved each fiscal year with new committee chairs voted in annually.

 
 
 
 

Directors

Director terms run two years and are staggered so that roughly half of the terms are up each year.
